A 15-year-old girl, Makayla Fortner, was fatally attacked by a group of neglected dogs in Alexander, Arkansas, on June 13, 2025, as she attempted to care for them. According to KATV News, Fortner and her mother, Stephanie Wilkie, were rescuing approximately 30 to 40 malnourished dogs they had noticed were suffering due to severe neglect by their owners.

The attack occurred around noon on White Oak Drive, about 17 miles from Little Rock. The Saline County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call, but tragically, Fortner was found dead at the scene. Neighbors described the incident as horrific and reported having previously complained to the county about the dangerous conditions posed by the dogs, which often roamed freely and exhibited aggressive behavior.

Heidi Clay, a nearby resident, expressed her concerns: "These dogs were very vicious at the fence... no one wanted to let their children walk to and from the bus stop." Following the attack, officials seized 14 dogs from the property, which were subsequently euthanized.
