College Student Allegedly Gang-Raped by Ten Men at Odisha Beach

A 23-year-old man was arrested for raping an 80-year-old woman in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, just two days after being released from jail. According to police reports, the man was allegedly intoxicated during the incident that took place while the woman was out on an evening walk. The survivor is currently receiving medical treatment and psychological counseling, and is reported to be out of danger.
Authorities stated that when they attempted to arrest the suspect, he became violent, wielding a knife and injuring two police officers. Officers were compelled to shoot him in the leg to subdue and apprehend him. A senior police official confirmed that a rape case has been registered and that evidence is being gathered.
This incident has sparked criticism from opposition leaders, who claim there is a rising trend in crimes against women under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin. While the government maintains that crime rates are stable, police chief Shankar Jiwal highlighted the increased reporting of such crimes due to heightened awareness among the public.
