Once the home was acquired, the real challenge began: extensive renovations that were required to make the house livable. Tabbone originally estimated a budget of approximately $40,000 for repairs, but the final costs ballooned to an astonishing $446,000 over three years. This included the purchase of an adjacent property for an additional $23,000 to provide extra space.
Living in Chicago while overseeing the renovations from overseas proved costly, as Tabbone noted travel expenses and contractor costs quickly added up. Despite these challenges, she highlighted the personal significance of the project, stating that it allowed her to connect with her heritage.
