Israel Strikes Beirut in Rare Attack Post-Ceasefire with Hezbollah

Hezbollah field commander Abbas Haidar was killed along with his family when an explosive device accidentally detonated at their home in Tayr Harfa, near Tyre, Lebanon, as reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on February 8, 2025. The IDF spokesperson, Colonel Avichay Adraee, stated that the blast was attributed to “leftover Israeli munitions,” emphasizing the danger these weapons pose even to Hezbollah members and the local population.
Adraee’s statement underlined the risks associated with Hezbollah’s arsenal, noting, “Hezbollah’s weapons are a double-edged sword, endangering Lebanon’s residents and even Hezbollah’s own surroundings.” The incident highlights the ongoing tensions within the region, particularly the hazards posed by unexploded ordnance from past conflicts. Local Lebanese reports have not independently verified the claims regarding the nature of the munitions involved. The violence in the area continues as various factions remain active.
