Russian Missile Strike in Sumy Kills 20 on Palm Sunday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserted that Europe cannot ensure Ukraine's security without the support of the United States, in an exclusive interview with The Guardian ahead of his diplomatic trip to the Munich Security Conference. Zelenskyy emphasized that “security guarantees without America are not real security guarantees,” highlighting concerns over potential decreased US support under President Donald Trump, who has indicated a desire to end the ongoing war.
Zelenskyy plans to advocate for US reconstruction contracts and investment opportunities to persuade Trump and his administration. According to Zelenskyy, the US’s military support, particularly from systems like the Patriot air defense, is crucial for Ukraine’s defense. He is set to meet US Vice President JD Vance at the conference and hopes to arrange a meeting with Trump.
Zelenskyy also addressed the ongoing debate in Europe about providing security guarantees and peacekeeping forces, stating that while a large-scale European force could help, ultimate security lies in US involvement. He expressed that without American support, achieving effective guarantees against Russian aggression remains a significant challenge.
