Russia and Ukraine Exchange Drone Strikes Amid Ceasefire Discussions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine requires "real security guarantees" before engaging in peace talks with Russia. During a meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for American support while emphasizing the necessity of a structured plan to halt Russian aggression. "We want peace very much, but we need real security guarantees," he said, highlighting concerns that without such assurances, Russia could threaten NATO.
Vance's speech at the conference criticized European leaders for failing to address pressing security issues and for perceived retreats from fundamental values. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas remarked that Vance's rhetoric felt confrontational, suggesting that it might deepen rifts between the U.S. and Europe amid ongoing discussions about Ukraine's future. Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stressed the importance of including Zelenskyy in future negotiations, reflecting a unified stance among U.S. and UK officials on Ukraine's role in peace efforts.
