Six Americans Released from Venezuelan Detention After Meeting with Trump Envoy

Venezuela has released six US detainees following negotiations in Caracas between President Nicolás Maduro and Richard Grenell, a senior official from the Trump administration. The development was confirmed via social media posts from former President Donald Trump and Grenell, who shared a photo of the detainees on his plane. According to Grenell, the released individuals expressed gratitude to Trump in a phone call following their release.
The discussions, described by Venezuelan state media as respectful, come amid heightened tensions between the US and Venezuela. Earlier, the White House had urged Venezuela to release what it termed "US hostages" and indicated the possibility of deporting Venezuelan criminals from the US in exchange. Although Grenell's visit was significant, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that it did not equate to US recognition of Maduro as Venezuela's legitimate leader.
Maduro's administration has faced criticism over its legitimacy following contested elections last year, with the outcomes widely rejected by the international community.
