Russian Missile Strike in Sumy Kills 20 on Palm Sunday

Dmytro Sherembey, head of Ukraine's largest patient-led organization, 100% Life, credits USAID with saving his life while living with HIV, stating, "I'm alive thanks to USAID." He highlighted the agency's significant role in identifying half of HIV-positive individuals in Ukraine, a crucial service amid the ongoing war with Russia. However, the future of USAID is now uncertain as U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order pausing nearly all foreign assistance during a review process.
Sherembey recounted the dire impact of this freeze, stating that essential HIV medication supply chains have been disrupted, putting thousands at risk. Officials have expressed grave concerns over the potential halt to USAID's funding for health services in countries like Afghanistan and Iran. Amidst mounting criticism from figures like Elon Musk, who referred to USAID as a "criminal organization," plans to merge the agency with the Department of State could jeopardize countless lives reliant on its support.
As USAID staff are reportedly facing leave, Sherembey emphasized, "My life is now at risk... HIV-positive people here have no alternatives."
