The Ukrainian military reported that they intercepted 37 out of 65 drones launched by Russian forces overnight, as Russia intensified its drone attacks across the country. According to officials, 28 of the drones likely failed to reach their targets due to electronic warfare measures employed by Ukrainian defense systems.

The strikes caused significant damage, affecting businesses, residential buildings, and a railway depot. The Ukrainian state railway company Ukrsalisnyzja noted that a logistics facility in the Dnipropetrovsk region sustained considerable infrastructural damage. Additionally, Governor Ihor Taburez communicated via Telegram that three private companies in the Cherkasy region caught fire following the attacks.

In the northeastern Sumy region, local authorities reported damage to eight residential buildings, including an apartment complex. Meanwhile, Ukrenerho, the national power grid operator, announced emergency power outages in eight regions in response to the ongoing threats. The situation underscores the continued strain on Ukraine's infrastructure amid the prolonged conflict, with emergency measures being taken to protect civilians.

US Aid Freeze Puts Ukraine in Economic Crisis Amid Ongoing War

Ukraine faces an unprecedented humanitarian and economic crisis following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent order to freeze all non-military foreign aid, including significant assistance from USAID. According to reports, Ukraine received over €34 billion in humanitarian aid since the onset of the war, with €16.5 billion provided just in 2023. Trump's decision, made on January 24, has left multiple NGOs and public administrations struggling, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to prioritize critical projects for state funding. Organizations such as Go Global, which offered educational programs to children affected by the invasion, have suspended key initiatives due to the funding halt. The impact is also being felt by local economies, with many public projects, including those supported by USAID, experiencing delays. The United Nations has reported that several projects centered on human rights protection relied on U.S. funding, making their future uncertain. High-ranking UN officials stated that they are evaluating which programs are critical to maintain despite funding challenges.

Zelenskyy Questions Missing US Aid in Ukraine’s War Effort

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine has received only $75 billion out of the $177 billion military aid approved by the United States. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Zelenskyy expressed confusion over the whereabouts of the unaccounted funds, stating, "I don't know where all that money went." This statement comes in light of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze nearly all foreign aid, with exceptions for Israel and Egypt. Zelenskyy clarified that the aid provided was primarily in the form of weapons rather than cash, noting the real value of military support. He countered claims that Ukraine had received $200 billion from the U.S., describing such figures as inflated. The Ukrainian president also pointed out that while acknowledging the corruption issues in Ukraine, there exists a robust anti-corruption system in place. As the Russia-Ukraine conflict stretches into its third year, Zelenskyy hopes for stronger U.S. backing and proposed an audit of veteran and healthcare programs amidst concern over the allocation of military support funds.
