Tragic Missile Strike in Kryvyi Rig Leaves 18 Dead, Ukraine Calls for Accountability

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Oleksii Vovkotrub, a commander in the Ukrainian military, disclosed that his troops were unaware of their mission to invade Russia's Kursk region until one day before the operation commenced on August 6, 2023. This surprise attack marked the largest incursion into Russian territory since World War II, according to military analysts.
The operation involved Ukrainian forces gathering in the northeastern Sumy region, planning to breach the border with high secrecy. Vovkotrub, also known by his call sign "Wolf," stated, "The details of the mission were only revealed to us the day before deployment. The mood was high, and we were eager to strike the enemy on their own territory."
Following the successful incursion, Ukrainian forces captured approximately 500 square miles of territory and secured several villages near Sudzha. However, since the operation, Russian counteroffensives have allowed Moscow to reclaim much of the lost land. Ukrainian command continues to prioritize military efforts in the Kursk region amid ongoing conflict.
