Ukraine Drone Strike Causes Casualties in Russia's Kursk Amid Ongoing Conflict

In a significant escalation of hostilities, Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted a large-scale drone assault targeting Russian energy infrastructure, including a gas processing plant in Astrakhan, during the night. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced via Telegram that 70 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed, although this claim is unverified, as reported by DER SPIEGEL.
Local sources, including the Telegram channel “Baza,” stated that a fire broke out at a gas facility in Astrakhan, attributed to the drone strikes. Witness reports suggested at least 50 explosions occurred near an oil refinery in Volgograd. No casualties have been reported so far, and the Russian aviation authority temporarily suspended operations at several airports, including those in Volgograd and Astrakhan, due to the drone strikes.
This attack aligns with Ukraine's ongoing strategy to undermine Russian energy capabilities. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for enhanced air defense systems following a series of devastating Russian bombings over the weekend, which resulted in over 20 fatalities in various Ukrainian cities, including Poltava.
