Russia Launches Largest Drone Attack on Ukraine Ahead of Peace Talks

Ukraine has commenced a new wave of drone attacks against Russia, employing hundreds of long-range drones to strike energy and military targets. The recent assault occurred overnight from Thursday to Friday, targeting refineries in Yaroslavl, approximately 250 kilometers northeast of Moscow, and Volgograd, over 400 kilometers from Ukraine's eastern border, according to local officials. Russian authorities reported shooting down over a hundred drones across nine provinces during earlier attacks this week.
Ukrainian intelligence claimed successful strikes on oil depots in Kstovo, located 750 kilometers from Ukraine. The ongoing campaign, which dates back to 2023, aims to undermine Russian defenses and pressure President Vladimir Putin into negotiations by demonstrating Russia's vulnerability, as outlined in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "Victory Plan." Notably, the drones used, such as the Beaver and UJ-22, are predominantly produced in Ukraine, unlike Russia's advanced missile arsenal. This strategy has reportedly resulted in civilian casualties, with 248 deaths recorded in Russia by mid-2024, as reported by digital media outlet 7x7.
