Tragic Missile Strike in Kryvyi Rig Leaves 18 Dead, Ukraine Calls for Accountability

Ukraine has successfully brought back twelve children who were deported to Russia amid the ongoing conflict, according to Andrij Jermak, chief of staff to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. These repatriated children are part of a broader initiative called "Bring Kids Back UA." Since the war began in February 2022, over 19,500 Ukrainian children have reportedly been taken into Russia or Russian-occupied territories without parental consent, as stated by Ukrainian officials.
Despite the progress with this group, the challenge remains significant, with only 388 children having been returned so far, highlighting the complexities of such operations during wartime. Russia claims the abductions are part of evacuation efforts to protect children from danger; however, testimonies from returnees suggest a different narrative. One former abductee, Anastasia, recounted being told she would be taken to a safe location when, in reality, she was subjected to indoctrination efforts aimed at erasing her Ukrainian identity.
The Ukrainian government continues to prioritize the return of its children amidst rising international concerns over these abductions.
