Suspected Hate Crime Investigated After Pig's Head Left at Jewish Memorial in Apolda
Authorities in Apolda, Germany, are investigating what is believed to be a hate crime following the discovery of a pig's head placed in front of the Prager-House, a memorial dedicated to the Jewish Prager family, victims of the Holocaust.
The incident occurred between Friday at 2 PM and Saturday at 11:40 AM near the former business location of Bernhard Prager, a Jewish merchant. Local police have classified the act as incitement to hatred, prompting a state protection investigation.
Thüringen's Prime Minister Mario Voigt and Interior Minister Georg Maier condemned the act, stating, "We firmly reject the desecration of the Prager-House in Apolda. There should be no space for anti-Semitism—neither in Apolda, nor anywhere in Thüringen or Germany."
The police are urging witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation. They can be contacted at 03641/81-0.
