Over 114 Civilians Killed in Sudan’s El Fasher Amid Ongoing Conflict

Sudan’s military reported significant advances against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as it seeks to regain control of Khartoum, raising hopes for a turning point in a brutal civil war that has persisted since April 2023. The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) are reportedly closing in on the RSF-held Republican Palace in Khartoum, with military sources stating they are "close to reaching the centre of Khartoum."
Babikir Elamin, Sudan's ambassador to the UK, suggested that the entire capital could be recaptured in a matter of days, citing the diminished RSF presence in areas such as Omdurman, Sudan's second-largest city. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, with over 12 million displaced and many facing famine conditions.
Recent developments have included the SAF breaking an RSF siege at its headquarters in Khartoum and capturing Wad Madani, a crucial city in the nation's agricultural belt. Humanitarian agencies like Médecins Sans Frontières reported a surge in war-wounded individuals needing assistance, indicating a worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the country.
