Sudanese Civil War Leads to Devastating Humanitarian Crisis

A recent artillery attack on a market in Omdurman, Sudan, resulted in the deaths of 40 individuals, including many civilians, according to a medical source from Al-Nao Hospital who spoke anonymously for safety reasons. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were implicated in the shelling, which occurred on Saturday, and reports indicate that the wounded are still being brought to the hospital, highlighting the desperate situation following the assault.
Since April 2023, the RSF has been engaged in a brutal conflict with the Sudanese regular army, leading to tens of thousands of fatalities and displacing over 12 million people. Eyewitnesses reported that the artillery fire originated from RSF-controlled areas and was supported by drone strikes. A volunteer at the hospital noted an urgent need for medical supplies as it faces ongoing attacks.
The attack coincides with a statement from RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who vowed to reclaim the capital from government forces. According to The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, approximately 26,000 deaths have occurred in Khartoum alone since the conflict's onset.
