Trump’s Threats Shake Foundations of Global Order

A recent SPIEGEL report has revealed that over 270 vehicles in Germany were targeted in a series of sabotage attacks allegedly orchestrated by Russian operatives. Politicians across various parties are expressing alarm at this reported interference ahead of the Bundestagswahl (federal election). Grünenfraktionschefin Franziska Brantner condemned the actions as part of a "hybrid war" against Europe, asserting that it reflects Russia’s ongoing attempt to weaken democratic institutions.
Brantner described the incidents as a direct attack on Germany, urging the need for improved protection of critical infrastructure. Inside the Bundestag, Konstantin von Notz emphasized the heightened threat posed by foreign influence, particularly from Russia, China, and Iran. He criticized previous inaction on security policies, suggesting that these sabotage operations exemplify a coordinated effort to disrupt public discourse and damage democratic processes.
Following the attacks, which misattributed responsibility to climate activists, law enforcement efforts are being intensified to uncover the full scope of the operations linked to Russian interests.
