Russian Missile Strike in Sumy Kills 20 on Palm Sunday

A Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa has reportedly left at least seven people injured, according to local authorities. The attack, which occurred on February 1, 2025, damaged parts of the city's UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical center, including the Bristol Hotel, built in the late 19th century.
Oleh Kiper, the regional governor, condemned the assault, stating on Telegram that "Russian terrorists have attacked the historic center with missiles." He urged residents to take air raid sirens seriously as further attacks may follow. The strike also shattered windows and damaged facades of several cultural sites, including the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Western and Eastern Art, and the Philharmonic Hall.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the missiles targeted civilian infrastructure, adding that Norwegian diplomats were present in the area at the time but were unharmed. Zelenskyy emphasized the need for improved air defense systems and faster weapon deliveries to protect both military personnel and civilians amid ongoing hostilities.
