German Doctor Charged with Murdering 15 Patients

A growing number of young men in Germany are aligning with the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, particularly in the lead-up to the national elections. According to a Pew Research study from 2024, 26% of German men express favorable views of the AfD, a significant increase since 2022. Concerns over immigration, exacerbated by recent violent incidents involving asylum seekers, fuel this shift among young voters, notably those aged 24 and under, who supported the AfD in European Parliament elections to the tune of 16%.
Experts suggest that traditional leftist political themes, often centered on women's rights and equality, do not resonate with many young men, leading them to seek representation in far-right parties. Additionally, social media platforms like TikTok have allowed the AfD to successfully promote its messaging, thus broadening its appeal. Despite the party's controversial background and classification as right-wing extremist in some regions, it is increasingly seen as a viable alternative, raising concerns about the implications for Germany's political landscape, particularly given the nation's historical context with Nazism.
