Mother Charged with Attempted Murder of Her Daughter in Traunstein Court Proceedings
In a shocking case in Traunstein, Germany, a young mother has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking her daughter while the child slept. Susanne J., who appeared in court shackled and in high-heeled boots, has no recollection of the incident that took place in May 2024, when she allegedly stabbed her daughter with a 20-centimeter knife, attempted to strangle her, and tried to jump from a balcony with the child.
The incident was thwarted by the child’s great-grandparents, who intervened and saved the girl. Upon police arrival, Susanne was found in a state of mental distress, reportedly covered in blood and requesting to be taken away. She has since been in a secure psychiatric facility, where she claims to be feeling better and has been successfully treated with medication.
The prosecution alleges that Susanne used her daughter's vulnerability against her, while her defense attorney argues that she was experiencing severe psychological stress, including sleep deprivation and existential fears following her separation from the child's father. The trial is set to conclude in mid-January, with the defense seeking Susanne's early release under strict psychiatric supervision if deemed safe.
The child's great-grandparents declined to testify during the proceedings. Susanne has expressed a deep longing for her daughter, who is currently living with her grandparents and providing her with updates through photos.
