Man Arrested for Threatening Passengers with Imitation Assault Rifle at Dortmund Train Station
A shocking incident occurred at Dortmund's main train station when a 25-year-old Syrian man threatened fellow passengers with what appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle. The man was initially reported by a concerned traveler who received a photo from a friend depicting the suspect brandishing the weapon aboard a regional train.
Upon receiving the alert around 11:30 AM, officers from the federal police quickly arrived at platform 10, where the train was stationed. The police surrounded the suspect and ordered him to lie down, leading to his immediate arrest without resistance.
The weapon, which was discovered inside a backpack, turned out to be a replica of an AK-47 and not functional. Eyewitnesses reported that while the man did not point the weapon at anyone, he verbally threatened two men aged 30 and 31 with death during the confrontation.
Following his arrest, the officers located documents with false information during a search of the suspect. Although he was initially detained, he was later released. The police have opened an investigation into the suspect for threats, forgery, and violations of gun laws.
