Tragedy Strikes Kumbh Mela as Crowd Crush Claims Lives of 30 Devotees

In a tragic incident in Pune, Maharashtra, a 45-year-old man named Vaibhav Hande has been accused of killing his wife and 9-year-old son under distress caused by harassment from moneylenders. The police reported that Hande allegedly administered sleeping pills to his wife, Shubhangi Hande, 36, and their son, Dhanraj, resulting in their deaths. Following this, he attempted to take his own life by hanging.
The sequence of events took a turn when Hande's 14-year-old son, who was staying with relatives, received a distressing message on his mobile phone detailing his father's intentions. Alarmed, he sought help from neighbors, who subsequently contacted the police after failing to get a response from the family.
Upon entering the residence, authorities found Vaibhav Hande alive and he was immediately transferred to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that Hande had borrowed substantial sums from the accused moneylenders under high-interest terms. Despite repaying the principal amount along with an additional Rs 9 lakh, he reportedly faced continuous harassment for further payments. Police have initiated action against four individuals linked to the case and have charged them with criminal intimidation.
The matter has raised awareness about the severe impacts of financial pressure and domestic tragedies associated with moneylending practices.
