Major Pile-Up Involving 100 Vehicles Occurs in Kazakhstan Due to Snow Storm
A significant multi-vehicle crash involving approximately 100 vehicles took place on January 3, 2025, on the Astana-Shchuchinsk road in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan. The accident occurred around 1:30 PM local time between the Kogam and Karatal villages in the Birzhan Sal district, according to the regional police department and reports from Kazinform News Agency.
The crash was attributed to a snowstorm that affected visibility and road conditions, leading to non-compliance with speed limits and safe distancing, as noted by KazAvtoJol, the national highway operator. Currently, 22 vehicles and two tractors remain at the accident site, with traffic restricted across all vehicle types.
Emergency services have been deployed to the scene, and evacuation of vehicles is in progress. As of now, there is no confirmed information regarding injuries or fatalities. Authorities have also issued warnings regarding continued poor weather conditions and recommended avoiding road travel, particularly on rural routes.
