Maha Kumbh 2025 Kicks Off with Record Attendance and Advanced Security Measures
The Maha Kumbh 2025 festival commenced today at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, attracting an astounding influx of devotees. Over 4 million pilgrims participated in the inaugural "Shahi Snan" or royal bath, marking the beginning of the 45-day event, which is expected to draw around 450 million visitors by its conclusion on February 26.
In preparation for the massive crowd, Uttar Pradesh police have implemented extensive security measures. For the first time, underwater drones capable of diving up to 100 meters have been deployed to monitor the area, along with tethered drones providing aerial surveillance. A total of 2,700 AI-enabled cameras are set to enhance real-time monitoring and facial recognition capabilities at entry points.
Infrastructure improvements include the establishment of 150,000 temporary accommodations, enhanced sanitation facilities, and 450,000 new electricity connections to support the needs of the attendees. The Indian Railways has introduced 98 special trains to facilitate travel, and significant road renovations and bridge constructions are underway to aid access to the festival.
Providing further assistance to visitors, a new AI chatbot, Kumbh Sah'AI'yak, has been launched to offer real-time guidance and updates via the official Maha Kumbh 2025 app and WhatsApp.
The festival is noted for its spiritual significance and cultural displays, including religious processions featuring adorned elephants and horseback parades. Notably, dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various cultural figures have expressed their good wishes as the event unfolds, emphasizing the gathering as a symbol of faith, heritage, and unity.
