Lay’s Classic Potato Chips Recall Elevated Due to Life-Threatening Allergen
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated the recall status of Lay's Classic Potato Chips to Class 1, indicating a significant health risk due to the potential presence of undeclared milk in the product. This classification is reserved for situations where there is a reasonable probability that the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
Initially announced on December 18, 2024, the recall affects limited quantities of 13 oz bags of Lay's Classic Potato Chips. The recall was prompted after Frito-Lay received consumer feedback that indicated the chips might contain undeclared milk, putting consumers with milk allergies or severe sensitivities at risk of life-threatening allergic reactions.
The affected bags have a "Guaranteed Fresh" date of February 11, 2025, and include manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx. The recalled products were distributed to various retail stores in Oregon and Washington and have been on sale since November 3, 2024. Fortunately, there have been no reported allergic reactions linked to the chips.
The FDA urges any consumers who may have purchased the affected product to refrain from consuming them and dispose of them immediately. The FDA also notes that no other Lay's products or flavors are affected by this recall.
