Freed Israeli Hostage Yarden Bibas Details Family Tragedy and Captivity

The Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj, India, is set to attract over 400 million devotees, making it the largest gathering of humanity in history, according to government estimates. This religious event, occurring every 12 years, marks a significant awakening among Hindu sects amid a shifting cultural landscape in India.
The festival serves as a pivotal moment for the akharas, or ancient Hindu sects, which have seen a surge in initiations this year. Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of the governing body for the akharas, noted that over 10,000 new sadhus have been initiated. This growth is partly attributed to the current nationalist government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has aligned itself closely with Hindu traditions.
The festival also demonstrates the blending of politics and religion, with the government spending approximately 70 billion rupees on the event and promoting it heavily. While the akharas have found new political relevance, there are ongoing discussions about formal representation in parliament for their leaders.
Despite a tragic incident that resulted in 30 deaths, the festival continues to be a significant cultural and religious event, drawing crowds and media attention, including social media engagement from popular sadhus.
