Cindy Rodriguez Singh, a 40-year-old Indian-American woman, has been placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, with a reward of $250,000 for information leading to her arrest. She is accused of the capital murder of her six-year-old son, Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez, who has been missing since October 2022. The FBI announced Singh's addition to the list this week, escalating the previously offered reward of $25,000 issued in August 2024.

According to officials, Singh believed her son was "evil" and possessed. Noel, who had a chronic lung condition requiring oxygen, was allegedly abused and neglected, with witnesses asserting that he often appeared malnourished. Investigators began probing her claims about Noel's absence following tips from concerned individuals.

Singh and her family left for India on March 22, 2023, and she is wanted in Texas for capital murder, alongside other charges. R. Joseph Rothrock, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Dallas field office, expressed confidence that increased publicity will aid in locating Singh and bringing her back to the U.S.

NASA Detects Third Interstellar Object on Course for the Sun

NASA has identified a new interstellar object, designated 3I/ATLAS, traveling towards the Sun at speeds exceeding 60 kilometers per second. This marks the third confirmed interstellar visitor to the solar system. 3I/ATLAS, previously known as A11pl3Z, was initially detected between June 25 and June 29 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System, which utilizes telescopes in South Africa and Hawaii for celestial observations. The object is estimated to be between 10 and 20 kilometers wide, potentially making it the largest interstellar visitor recorded to date. According to the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Centre, it is on a trajectory that indicates it is not gravitationally bound to the Sun and will exit the solar system after its closest approach in approximately four months. Experts like Richard Moissl from the European Space Agency have reiterated that 3I/ATLAS poses no threat to Earth, as it will travel well within the orbit of Mars without impacting nearby planets. This discovery adds to previous findings, including the famous Oumuamua in 2017 and Comet 2I/Borisov in 2019.

US Military Identified as World's Largest Institutional Greenhouse Gas Emitter

A recent study published in PLOS Climate has identified the United States military as the largest institutional emitter of greenhouse gases globally. The research, led by Ryan Thombs of Penn State University, detailed that emissions arise from various military operations such as maintaining bases, conducting training, and transporting personnel and equipment around the world. Military officials acknowledge that climate change presents a significant threat to both national and global security. Previous studies have indicated a correlation between military expenditures and greenhouse gas emissions. Thombs and his team found that reductions in military spending could lead to substantial energy savings, potentially equivalent to the energy consumption of entire small nations. The study analyzed data from 1975 to 2022, showing that decreases in military spending are associated with lower energy usage, particularly in facilities, vehicles, and aviation fuel. Looking ahead, the researchers predict that sustained cuts by 2032 could achieve annual energy savings comparable to that of the US state of Delaware or the country of Slovenia. The authors emphasize the necessity for more research on the relationship between military spending and energy consumption, highlighting implications for climate change mitigation.
