India Condemns Fatal Pakistani Airstrikes in Afghanistan
India has officially condemned the recent airstrikes carried out by Pakistan in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, which reportedly resulted in over 40 fatalities, including women and children. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives and labeled the actions as part of Pakistan’s long-standing tendency to deflect its own internal issues onto neighboring countries.
The airstrikes targeted the Barmal district on December 24, leading to significant casualties, including the deaths of five members from a single family. The Taliban government reported that at least 46 people died, and several others were injured during the attack, which affected seven villages in the region.
Following the airstrikes, tensions escalated at the border, resulting in violent clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces. One Pakistani paramilitary soldier was reported killed, and seven others injured during exchanges of fire, amidst protests from Afghans opposing Pakistan's military actions.
The Indian government reiterated its condemnation of attacks on innocent civilians and noted the international concern regarding the circumstances surrounding the airstrikes.
