Gujarat Model Anjali Varmora Found Dead in Suspected Suicide

INIndia|

Anjali Varmora, a 23-year-old model from Surat, Gujarat, was found dead in her home on June 7, 2025, in an alleged suicide. Just a day prior, she shared a concerning Instagram post stating, "Today I realised I am nothing for you," which has drawn attention to her mental well-being. Investigators believe she may have been struggling with mental stress, though no suicide note was located at the scene.

Authorities are currently probing the incident, questioning family members, and examining Varmora's mobile phone for clues. Her social media presence included regular vlogs and posts, garnering around 37,000 followers. This tragic event follows the recent suicide of another aspiring model, 19-year-old Sukhpreet Kaur, also in Surat, who reportedly faced blackmail and harassment before her death.

Mental health awareness remains critical, as both incidents raise concerns regarding the pressures faced by individuals in the modeling industry, according to local officials. The case continues to develop as investigators seek further answers.

Protests Erupt in Manipur Following Arrest of Ethnic Leader

Protests erupted in Imphal, Manipur's capital, as demonstrators threatened self-immolation over the arrest of Kanan Singh, leader of the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group, who is implicated in violent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The protests began on Saturday night, marked by tire burning and roadblocks, as some protesters poured petrol on themselves, expressing outrage at the arrest. Police reported that gunfire was heard in the area. The government has since imposed a curfew and suspended internet services across five districts in an attempt to control the unrest. Kanan Singh is facing serious allegations linked to the kidnapping of a police officer in February 2024, and he joined the AT after his suspension from a police unit for "dereliction of duty." Resistance from both communities complicates arrests as ethnic tensions remain high in Manipur, where over 260 have died and nearly 50,000 have been displaced due to violence since May 2023. The ongoing unrest highlights the deep divisions within the state, with reports of armed volunteer groups on both sides, raising concerns about escalating violence.

Mother Arrested for Complicity in Daughter’s Rape in Haridwar

A former BJP worker, Anamika Sharma, has been arrested along with her boyfriend and his accomplice for allegedly allowing the sexual assault of her 13-year-old daughter. The arrests occurred on Wednesday at a hotel in Haridwar after a medical examination confirmed the girl's assault, according to Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal. The case came to light when the victim disclosed her ordeal to her father, prompting him to file a police complaint. Authorities charged the trio under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including charges of gang-rape. Police reported that the assaults took place in Haridwar, Agra, and Vrindavan between January and March this year, with the crimes occurring in the presence of Sharma, who allegedly consented to the acts. Sharma once led the BJP Mahila Morcha's Haridwar district unit but has been stripped of her party membership following the incident. Reports indicate that the perpetrators threatened the victim’s father to prevent her from speaking out.
