Global Survey Reveals Alarming Rise in Antisemitism
A recent survey conducted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has revealed that antisemitism has reached alarming levels globally, with over 2 billion individuals exhibiting deep-seated hatred towards Jews. The report indicates that this figure has more than doubled over the past decade. In Germany alone, more than 6 million adults are estimated to hold antisemitic views, translating to approximately one in twelve individuals.
The survey, which covered a total of 103 countries, highlights a significant uptick in antisemitic incidents following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. Authorities noted that existing moderate antisemitic sentiments can create a substantial threat to Jewish communities. Among the nations surveyed, Germany ranks fifth in Western Europe for the lowest levels of antisemitic attitudes, while it places seventh worldwide.
Another concerning finding from the survey is that 20% of respondents admitted to having no awareness of the Holocaust, and less than half of the total respondents acknowledged its historical accuracy, particularly among younger demographics aged 18 to 34.
Jonathan A. Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, characterized the rise in antisemitism as a "global emergency," emphasizing the urgent need for educational initiatives, social media safeguards, and enhanced security measures to combat hate crimes against Jews. The survey engaged over 58,000 adults, serving as one of the most comprehensive studies on antisemitism to date.
