Concerns Rise Over Disinformation Campaigns in German Election

Germany's Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack has reported that multiple ships in the German navy have been sabotaged, reflecting escalating tensions with Russia. At a press conference on Tuesday, Kaack noted that several incidents involved attempted break-ins at naval bases and sabotage on at least one corvette-class vessel, the "Emden," which suffered damage after metal shavings were poured into its engine system. These events have prompted increased vigilance among German authorities, who have not attributed blame to a specific party, but Kaack highlighted a growing urgency in addressing the perceived threat from Moscow.
Recent reports by Süddeutsche Zeitung indicated that German police are investigating damage caused during construction at a Hamburg shipyard. The Emden is one of several new K130 corvettes scheduled for delivery in 2025. Kaack's warnings follow previous incidents of sabotage linked to Russian activities, which have raised alarms as Ukraine's allies increasingly accuse Russia of engaging in a hybrid war against Western countries.
