Andhra Teen Faces Trauma after Two-Year Assault; Reports Pregnancy

A tragic incident in Sangli, Maharashtra, resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl, Sadhna Bhonsle, who was allegedly beaten to death by her father after scoring poorly in a National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mock test. Sadhna, a Class 12 student, had previously excelled in her Class 10 board exams with a score of 92.60%. Her father, Dhondiram Bhonsle, a school principal, reportedly lost his temper due to her low marks, leading to a brutal assault with a stick.
Following the attack, Sadhna suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Ushakal Hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Her mother filed a complaint on June 22, resulting in Dhondiram’s arrest, as police confirmed he confessed to the crime. The police stated, "The case is under investigation and the accused will remain in custody until June 24."
This incident sheds light on the extreme pressures students face regarding academic performance in India, raising questions about parental expectations and mental health.
