Concerns Rise Over Disinformation Campaigns in German Election

As Dresden prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of its bombing during World War II, the state's Office for the Protection of the Constitution (LfV) has issued warnings about potential far-right gatherings. According to LfV President Dirk-Martin Christian, there is an expectation of significant participation from a range of extremist groups across Europe during events planned from February 13 to 15.
The far-right activists aim to gather under the guise of a "memorial march," alongside protests and exhibitions, to promote historical revisionism and trivialize Nazi crimes. Police anticipate disruptions and confrontations, as a coalition has organized a human chain around Dresden’s city center as a counter-protest, emphasizing a message against the misuse of remembrance events.
Dresden police chief Lutz Rodig highlighted concerns over increased mobilization of right-wing participants, including those from abroad, which could exceed previous years. The city remembers the bombing that claimed approximately 25,000 lives and devastated its historical center, resisting attempts by extremists to overshadow these commemorations.
