Delhi Police Uncover Tinder Extortion Gang Targeting Gay Men
New Delhi: The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a gang that lured gay men through the popular dating app Tinder, leading to their extortion. Five individuals, including a minor, have been apprehended in connection with the case.
The gang allegedly contacted victims by pretending to share similar sexual preferences. Once a meeting was arranged, the unsuspecting victim was taken hostage. This tactic was revealed after a complaint from a victim who had met a man named Ankit on Tinder. Upon arrival at a designated meeting point near Gokalpuri metro station, the victim was transported to a house in Pratap Nagar where he was coerced into stripping. Subsequently, several gang members entered the room and began to blackmail him.
According to the victim's report, they confiscated his mobile phone and demanded access to his bank account, managing to transfer approximately Rs 1.25 lakh before releasing him. Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation that involved technical surveillance and local intelligence to locate the suspects.
Arrests were made, with the main accused identified as Nitin, along with others named Arjun, Akash, and Faizan, all of whom have prior robbery charges against them. The police also recovered the victim's phone from Nitin.
The emergence of this case highlights the dangers associated with online dating platforms and the need for increased vigilance among users.
