Russian Missile Strike in Sumy Kills 20 on Palm Sunday

At least one person has been confirmed dead following a Russian missile attack on Kyiv, which set off fires across the city, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported that among the three injured individuals was a nine-year-old child. Emergency services were deployed to multiple districts as fires erupted in both residential and commercial buildings.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine identified the Obolonsky district as the site of the fatality, with additional reports of injuries and damage to office structures. Fires were also reported in the Sviatoshynskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, with over 80 rescuers on-site to handle the aftermath. The missile strike occurred shortly after 4:30 AM local time, with air raid alerts indicating an unexpected attack.
Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, stated, "Russia carried out a missile strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region." The recent escalation comes amid discussions of potential peace negotiations as U.S. President Donald Trump indicated he has reached out to both Kyiv and Moscow.
