Sudanese Civil War Leads to Devastating Humanitarian Crisis

A recent attack on the Sabrein Market in Omdurman, Sudan, conducted by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in the deaths of at least 54 individuals and injuries to over 150 others, according to health authorities. This incident marks another tragic development in the ongoing civil war that has ravaged the northeastern African nation since April 2023.
Khalid al-Aleisir, Sudan’s culture minister, condemned the assault, emphasizing that many victims were women and children. He labeled the event as a significant breach of international humanitarian law. Reports indicate that a mortar shell struck near Al-Naw Hospital, which treated many of the injured, already facing a severe shortage of medical staff.
The RSF has been under increasing pressure in recent months, suffering setbacks in military engagements. Despite these recent losses, the group continues to be blamed for widespread atrocities during the conflict, which has claimed more than 28,000 lives and forced millions to flee their homes, leading to a dire humanitarian crisis, including famine, as reported by various organizations.
