Rajasthan NGO Busted for Human Trafficking Under Mass Marriage Scam

A tragic crowd crush at the Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj, India, has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and injured more than 60 others, according to Uttar Pradesh police. The incident occurred during the Mauni Amavasya, one of the festival’s holiest bathing days, where millions gathered to immerse themselves in the sacred confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos as throngs of devotees attempted to reach the riverbanks, leading to a surge that overwhelmed barriers. Baljeet Singh, who lost his wife in the crush, lamented, “There was no way we could save ourselves.” Many families separated during the panic, with some individuals still unaccounted for as search efforts continue at makeshift hospitals.
Despite the tragedy, the festival—a major event marketed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for its symbolism of Hindu unity and power—continues to attract crowds. The state government announced that over 76 million people participated on the first day, illustrating the festival's tremendous draw, even amidst growing safety concerns.
