Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is predicted to win the upcoming Delhi state elections, potentially ending a 27-year absence from power in the capital, as per exit polls. These projections suggest the BJP could secure 43 seats in the Delhi assembly, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) trailing behind at 26 seats. The Congress party, historically significant in the area, is expected to win only one seat, according to a composite “poll of polls” reported by The Guardian.
The AAP, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has denied the accuracy of exit polls, claiming a history of underestimations on their electoral strength. Kejriwal's leadership, marked by an anti-corruption platform, is pinned against a backdrop of recent controversies, including allegations of corruption linked to a liquor policy. If these forecasts hold true, it would mark a significant setback for the AAP, whose governance model had focused on extensive public welfare initiatives.
Official election results are scheduled for release on Saturday.
