Deadly Sectarian Clashes in Syria Claim 73 Lives

A BBC Arabic team was detained at gunpoint by Israeli soldiers on May 9, while near the Syrian town of Quneitra, an area disputed since the 1967 Middle East war. The team, consisting of seven members, was documenting the situation along the Syrian-Israeli border when they were approached by Israeli forces who subsequently surrounded them, confining their filming equipment and phones. According to Feras Kilani, a special correspondent with the BBC, soldiers pointed rifles at the crew and demanded they stop filming.
After more than two hours of detention and interrogation, the team was released but not before their personal devices were searched, and footage deleted. The soldiers threatened further repercussions for any future attempts to document the area. Kilani and his colleagues were later released roughly seven hours after detainment, disoriented but ultimately unharmed. The BBC has lodged a complaint with the Israeli military regarding the incident but has yet to receive a response.
