Adam Christopher Sheafe, 51, has confessed to the murder of Pastor Bill Schonemann, 76, who was found dead in a crucifixion-style position in his bed at the New River Bible Chapel in Arizona. In an interview with FOX 10, Sheafe claimed the attack, which took place in April, was part of a self-described "spiritual mission" targeting religious leaders he believed were misleading their congregations.

Sheafe expressed intent to execute 14 more religious figures, stating he views churches as promoting a "false God." He was apprehended near the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona while reportedly planning to kill two priests. Following the murder of Schonemann, Sheafe purportedly attempted to follow a priest home from Easter services as part of his broader scheme.

Currently held at Coconino County Jail, Sheafe faces a first-degree murder charge in Maricopa County. He has shown no remorse for his actions, asserting he acted in accordance with what he perceives as divine law and looks forward to redemption.

NASA's Curiosity Rover Reveals Evidence of Ancient Water on Mars

NASA's Curiosity rover has captured significant close-up images of Martian geology, providing "dramatic evidence" suggesting that water once flowed on the planet. The newly documented ridges, observed in a "boxwork pattern," are believed to be remnants of ancient groundwater activity on Mount Sharp, according to a NASA news release. The rover, which has been exploring Gale Crater since its 2012 landing, highlights features that had previously been seen only from orbit. These formations indicate that Mars may have once housed rivers, lakes, and possibly an ocean, but later transitioned to its current arid state. Curiosity's project scientist, Ashwin Vasavada, commented on the uniqueness of the patterning, stating, "A big mystery is why the ridges were hardened into these big patterns and why only here." The patterns include small fractures filled with calcium sulfate, which had not been previously located in this region of Mount Sharp. NASA continues to analyze these findings as Curiosity further ascends the mountain, searching for clues about past life-sustaining environments on Mars.

Cargo Ship Morning Midas Sinks in Pacific After Fire Incident

The Morning Midas, a cargo ship carrying approximately 3,000 vehicles, sank in international waters on June 23, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The vessel, operated by London's Zodiac Maritime, capsized around 5:30 p.m., approximately 450 miles southwest of Adak, Alaska. The ship, which had previously experienced a fire on June 3 while en route from China to Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico, was transporting 1,530 metric tons of very low-sulfur fuel oil and 350 tons of marine gas oil, alongside 3,048 vehicles, including 70 electric and 681 hybrid vehicles. Officials noted that the heavy fire damage, combined with adverse weather conditions and water ingress, contributed to the vessel's sinking. The Coast Guard reported no visible signs of pollution from the wreckage, and while two salvage vessels are currently monitoring the area for potential environmental impact, Zodiac Maritime expressed gratitude for the Coast Guard’s swift response. The company confirmed that all crew members were safely evacuated prior to sinking with no reported injuries.

Texas Teen Charged with First-Degree Murder in Track Meet Stabbing

Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old high school student, has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing fellow student Austin Metcalf, also 17, during a district track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April. The Collin County District Attorney confirmed the indictment on Tuesday, stating that a Grand Jury had reviewed evidence presented over weeks. The incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at Kuykendall Stadium, where both students sought shelter under a tent during rain. Their altercation escalated, leading to Anthony allegedly stabbing Metcalf in the chest, according to district officials. Following the tragedy, the case has garnered extensive media attention due to the racial dynamics involved—Metcalf being white and Anthony Black. Anthony reportedly claimed self-defense, and his attorney, Mike Howard, expressed confidence that the jury would ultimately reach a just conclusion. The initial bond set at $1 million has since been reduced to $250,000, prompting public outcry. If convicted, Anthony faces a potential life sentence in prison.
