44 Arrested in Shocking Rape Case Involving Dalit Teen in Kerala
In a distressing case of sexual abuse, Kerala Police have arrested 44 individuals in connection with the alleged rape of an 18-year-old Dalit girl. According to DIG S Ajeetha Begum, the investigation has led to the registration of 30 First Information Reports (FIRs) against 59 named suspects, highlighting the severity and scale of the alleged crimes.
The girl reportedly faced multiple incidents of sexual abuse from the age of 13, including gang rapes that occurred in various locations, such as a rubber plantation and even within a hospital. The case came to light after educators observed changes in the girl's behavior and alerted the Child Welfare Committee, which subsequently referred the matter to the police.
The investigation team, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising over 30 officers, aims to conduct a thorough inquiry. The authorities are currently searching for the remaining suspects, with two believed to be abroad. The police plan to issue Look Out Circulars and potentially a Red Corner notice through Interpol to apprehend them.
DIG Begum has assured the public of a rigorous and uncompromising investigation, committing to bring all perpetrators to justice. As the region prepares for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season, additional officers will be integrated into the SIT to bolster efforts in this critical case.
